Which Snakes Make Good Pets
Snakes can be great pets for several reasons. First they are very low
maintenance and basically only need food to be happy. If left alone are
nice to look at but with regular handling can be the perfect pet to hang
around and keep you company.
It’s true snakes are not the right pet for everyone because they have
some unique requirements. So like when choosing any pet do some
research, gain some understanding about what raising a snake requires,
and make sure you are totally committed so neither you or the snake
suffers.
• You will need to make sure you are willing to commit to anywhere
between 10 and 15 to even 20 years for some of these creatures live a
very long time.
• Second you will need to understand that some snakes require being feed
live animals which yes means feeding mice or rabbits whole to your
snake.
• The cages need cleaning on a regular basis.
If you are ready to commit that’s great! If you are a parent you
probably have a boy who wants something like a boa or cobra which are
both beautiful amazing creatures but sometimes which is cool and what is
best aren’t the same thing. Boas and cobras are more snakes for experts
to raise so let’s see what snakes are better for you.
Let’s start off with snakes for beginners:

• Ball Pythons
• King snakes
• Milk snakes
• Corn snakes
All these snakes are reasonably sized, fairly easy to care for, and
tend to be quite docile.
Snakes to avoid or ones we should leave to professionals:
• Water snakes
• Burmese pythons
• Boa constrictors
• Red – tailed boas
• Green snakes
• Tree boas or pythons

And of course snakes that everyone should avoid because they are
deathly to everyone around them:
• Anacondas
• Reticulated pythons
• Any and all venomous snake

Now although it’s true that venomous pouches can be removed and even
teeth can be excised but that doesn’t make then any less dangerous. I
mean sure it takes away their venom and teeth which is what they rely on
to kill but if those are taken away they can find other ways. Like boas
are known for just strangling their victims to death where as others
have what is referred to as lock jaw meaning even if they have nothing
in their mouth they would be able to bite down and you wouldn’t be able
to get the snakes mouth open. And trust me even without teeth that kind
of bite would still hurt like crazy. So best not keep these snakes are
pets.
However if you have the need for a large snake the Ball python is a
good way to go growing anywhere between three and five feet long;
typically growing a foot a year for around three years. This snake gets
its name from its tendency to curl into a ball when fearful or feeling
like it’s in danger. Now although they aren’t as long as many of the
constrictors out there they are extremely docile creatures and usually
flourish with the proper care. Flourishing even to 50 years but
typically a well cared for Ball python can live 20 – 30 easily. |
